Rock The Vote Celebrates ADA 30

July 30, 2020

SignVote Partners with Rock the Vote to Celebrate #ADA30 and Get Out the Vote

We partnered with Rock the Vote and several other organizations to host a live stream event commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The star-studded event was co-hosted by Shoshannah Stern and Melissa Elmira Yingst and featured celebrities, activists, elected officials, and performers that represented the breadth of the disability community.

“Our partnership with Rock the Vote and the National Disability Rights Network was momentous!” explained Kriston Pumphrey, CSD’s Community Engagement Manager. “I remember seeing Rock the Vote when I was a kid on MTV – so yes, we were thrilled to see deaf representation during their ADA 30th anniversary event! Representation is crucial when we talk about what it means to exercise one of our most fundamental rights in shaping society – our right to vote. Until we can get past being politically correct, past the whole conversation surrounding diversity and inclusion to practicing radical inclusion, we can begin to unlock the full potential of this nation.”

Now What?

This event was a part of the Democracy Summer 2020 series that was kicked off earlier this year with performances by Katy Perry and The Black Eyed Peas. Democracy Summer 2020 has three primary goals:

  • Get people to register to vote
  • Get people involved in the democratic processes
  • Get people to invite three of their friends to vote

So, let’s get to it! Check out our resource page to find all of the resources you need.
